Change Happens by Choice
There’s a lot going on in our country and in the world right now. For a long time, I believed real change came from big moments. Historic speeches. Landmark decisions. Movements so loud and visible that they were almost impossible to ignore. Those moments matter – they always have. They shape policy, shift culture, and move history forward.
But after decades of working alongside women leaders, advocates, and changemakers, I’ve learned that change also happens in the quiet moments. The world doesn’t change all at once. It changes because someone decides to show up differently – many times before it feels comfortable, and usually when no one else is around.
Real change is rarely dramatic in the moment. It’s cumulative, and it’s built through choices people make every day when they decide that what they do – and how they do it – matters.
Where Real Change Actually Lives
Change doesn’t only happen on stages or in the headlines. It happens in rooms most people never see and where events are seldom shared. It happens when a woman’s idea is credited instead of overlooked or a biased assumption is named instead of ignored. It also happens when a woman is supported publicly, or when someone chooses courage over convenience – not because it’s easy, but because it’s the right thing to do.
This is the true engine of progress – ordinary people acting with intention.
Women have always moved the world forward this way – through persistence, through relationships, and through an unwillingness to accept things as they are, especially when they know they can be better.
Why Silence Feels So Tempting
Despite what you might have heard growing up, silence is not golden. Especially right now. Many women are afraid that they don’t know enough, might say the wrong thing, or could make things worse. Silence isn’t the easy way out; silence comes from fear and keeps us locked out.
Justice has never been tidy, and progress has never waited until all involved are 100% sure. Speaking out is how momentum builds. You have a voice, use it. Silence reinforces the status quo, and that rarely works in women’s favor.
A Question Worth Asking Yourself
When decisions feel uncomfortable or unclear, ask yourself, “Who does my silence protect — and who does my voice help?”
Someone in your world needs your voice and support right now. A woman taking her first steps into leadership. A colleague whose ideas keep getting dismissed. A voice that challenges comfort but remains unheard.
When you lift someone up, two things happen. You rise a little — and the space around you changes too. That’s how cultures shift. One small action at a time.
Do One Small Thing This Week
You don’t need to fix everything, and you don’t need to have all the answers. Just choose one intentional act this week:
· Share a woman’s work or leadership publicly.
· Nominate a woman who wouldn’t nominate herself.
· Amplify a voice without reframing or correcting it.
· Support a woman-led campaign, book, or initiative.
· Small actions make a big difference. They always have.

In Closing
We started this space because we believe that when women support women, there is nothing we can’t do. While Substack is a bit more conversational than what you may be used to, it feels like a natural progression.
After years of working with women leaders and equality advocates, we wanted a place to reflect more openly on what we’ve learned and to highlight leadership, courage, and the behind-the-scenes actions that move us towards real change. We’re grateful that you’re here, and excited that we’re having this conversation together.
This Substack is a reminder that change starts with us — and with the choices we make every day to lift one another up.
Together, we are a force.

Love this reminder that real change isn’t only made in spotlight moments, but in the daily, often invisible choices to speak up, credit women’s ideas, and show up with intention. The question “Who does my silence protect, and who does my voice help?” really landed. Thank you for the nudge toward one small act this week that actually shifts the culture.
